Not only are they beautiful to gaze upon, but it’s helpful for us to examine them to improve our technology and grow as innovators. While these technically are “accidents,” when Planet experts find any, they are often shared among the Planet team as gems or found treasures. Sometimes small glitches occur that result in vibrant or even abstract imagery, much like the popular glitch art phenomenon, where errors are intentionally created within the code of a file to create wild pictures. While collecting 1.2 million images a day and testing our demo satellites, we see a lot of eye-opening results. Planet takes an agile approach to aerospace, where we focus on transforming product developments and driving industry innovation. To commemorate this event, we’ve collected extraordinary, rainbow-colored images from Planet’s archives. In 1970, the first march was successfully held in New York City, and then in 1978, politician Harvey Milk commissioned artist and then-drag performer Gilbert Baker to create the rainbow flag for San Francisco’s annual pride parade, and it was soon adopted as a beloved symbol of LGBT rights. Fifty years ago, activists gathered together to plan the first gay pride march in response to the Stonewall riots of 1969, when a police raid was met with an uprising to stand up for LGBT rights.
